Maple is the hardest of northern hardwoods, and grew in popularity as flooring through the 20th c as woodworking equipment and drying methods improved its consistency. Often seen in narrower strip floor sizes and iconic for indoor sport surfaces, it’s less often featured in it’s broader character grade, which offer striking natural wood tones, where light and mid-tone browns within the woods dense closed grain, alternate in sweeping wood figure. The natural and refined wood qualities have been adapted to a range of design environments.
